CHARACTER NAME: Kresnik Ahtreide
SERIES: Wild ARMs 4 Wiki link
CANON POINT: After the battle with Cyanoides.
APPEARANCE: Image

PERSONALITY:
Typically, Kresnik is a serious and calm commander who takes his duty as an officer very critically. He always follows orders, no matter what the cost, in order to preserve a future for his world. As a soldier, he rarely lets his emotions influence his decisions, making him seem rather detached and almost cold most of the time. In fact, a couple of his fellow officers even say that he takes everything way too seriously.

He’s generally respectful to strangers, though he is a bit distant when addressing people, usually keeping his interactions short. That’s not to say that he doesn’t care about others. When someone needs assistance, Kresnik is usually willing to offer his help, which stems from his desire to protect others. Although he will come to people’s aid, he can be hard-headed when he’s giving out a command for them to follow.

His organization, Brionac, is an elite group of soldiers who are dedicated in bringing democracy to the wasteland known as Filgaia. Believing in that ideal, Kresnik is willing to lay down his life for that cause. He is known to be the most honorable, but no-nonsense officer of the entire organization. In fact, he is called the “lance” that reinforces Brionac’s and Captain Lambda’s ideas and someone who rarely lets his guard down. Another nickname that he has is “Pale Rider,” but the game does not describe why he has that title and it is up for interpretation. Kresnik can be incredibly stubborn and it is difficult for someone to change his mind. However, he is rather willing to work with people, even if he dislikes them, if it increases the chance of success. Quite often, he is grateful for any help when he requests it. This is shown when he thanks Jude and the others for their help when trying to rescue his sister.

Since he lost his parents, Yulie is his only remaining family left. She is his motivation in striving forward through all the hardships he went through as a experimental subject and as a soldier. His younger sister is the main reason why he wants to better Filgaia, because he wants to ensure a future for her. Because of this, she is also one of his main weaknesses. He will do anything to make sure she is safe, even if it means going against his military organization or losing everything. Kresnik’s emotions tend to get the better of him when his sister is involved, causing him to have outbursts and be irrational. In one instance, he yelled at his captain when Yulie’s safety was in danger.

Despite being experimented on when he was rather young, it is not the experiments and pain that cause him to be depressed, but the fact that he is a defective gene driver (someone that can use ARMs) and must use drugs in order to use his ARM without experiencing any pain. Kresnik is angry at himself for not being able to use it effectively. This causes him to be jealous of Jude Maverick, a natural born and perfect gene driver. Regardless, he wants to keep the promise that he made to Yulie in the orphanage: protecting her and everyone in Filgaia. Without a conviction for him to fight for, Kresnik stops believing in himself and tends to just remember his time at the orphanage, a place where he was helpless and unable to stop the scientists from experimenting on his sister.

Even though Kresnik later realizes that Yulie is strong, he still wants to protect her whenever possible. He can trust Yulie to walk her own path now, but his conviction still remains the same. This shows that he has some level of dependence on her, despite trying to be the strong older brother. Either that, or he is just overprotective and worries too much.

Kresnik claims that he uses his ARM to protect those who cannot use one. Despite his conviction to use his ARM to protect others, he cannot shake the thought that he is still a defect, calling himself one even at a late point in the game. He constantly compares himself to Jude, who doesn’t even tire even after using his ARM for long periods of time. As he watches Jude wield his ARM with great expertise, he begins to doubt his own abilities again while he endures the Resistance Impulse (which is a backlash that all incompatible ARM wielders feel). He’s uncertain if he can really “leap into the future” and make a big change, since Jude has done so many things that he couldn’t do, despite the boy only being 13 years old. His pride was hurt when he initially lost a fight to him, especially since Jude has only wielded his ARM for a month or so while Kresnik has trained for years with his.

Whether it’s because he is young for a commander or considered to be the guinea pig of the Congressional Knights, some soldiers do not take him seriously and dislike him greatly, as seen by the soldier Tony. Though it’s not stated in the canon, many soldiers most likely compare him to Hauser Blackwell, the hero of the Global Union and the first Gene Driver. Hauser was a very powerful soldier, as he eliminated an entire military in one night, and Kresnik’s ability with his prototype ARM is not even close to his. Balgaine, who is also a Brionac officer, said “Finally, an ARM-wielding warrior has appeared” even though Kresnik could technically use one. He also did not participate in the 78 year war that many soldiers were involved in, so he’s most likely inexperienced in comparison and unable to fully comprehend the horrors of the battlefield. Furthermore, Brionac in general is not highly regarded by some soldiers and citizens. They’re looked upon as a group of weirdos that banded together because of their unusual abilities that surpass the power of an average human.

Due to Brionac being the intelligence unit of the Congressional Knights, Kresnik is also very observant about his surroundings and foes. He was the first to realize that all the prisoners in the prison were fully mutated. In battle, Kresnik normally tries to read his opponents’ moves and assess the situation before attacking. However, he won’t use words to manipulate the opponent and dislikes using any underhanded techniques to win. As seen from a rough translation from the complete guide, Kresnik also understands the strengths of an individual and how to utilize their abilities to their full potential. He noticed Jude’s Accelerator ability and mentioned a few ways in how it can be used in a report.

Speaking of Brionac, even though Kresnik betrayed that organization, there are moments that reveal that he’s still proud of it. He even reported his own betrayal to his captain, wanting to be punished for his disobedience and treason. Later on, in a self-motivation speech, he refers to himself as the Pale Rider and the Lance of Brionac and continues to wear his uniform afterward.

Generally, Kresnik has a difficult time trusting others. Whether it’s because of his past or the fact that he doesn’t want to appear weak in front of the other soldiers, it takes him a while to trust someone. Even when around others he trusts, the soldier still keeps many things to himself, with the only exception being Yulie. Due to this lack of trust, getting to personally know people is not high on his priority list. Yes, he will save people and help those that are injured, but he won’t go out of his way to know about their dreams or hobbies.

Kresnik prefers being honest with his answers, though he may make a few exceptions depending on the person, usually if they’re young girls. Because of his sister complex, he is generally friendlier to them. Despite his honestly with his answers, he doesn’t go out of his way to insult people either, usually keeping those thoughts to himself. Around Lieutenant Jeremy, he only chides the officer for disobeying orders and doesn’t directly insult him. Although he won’t insult others, Kresnik isn’t above cutting people off, which is shown when Arnaud started to describe his infiltration plan and the soldier interrupted his sentence by suggesting his own idea.

Generally, he’s uncomfortable in social gatherings and usually tries to avoid them, since he prefers to be alone. Only when the situation becomes critical or is vital that he will attend a meeting, otherwise he’ll decline, thinking that they are just a waste of time. Mostly, he’s uncomfortable socializing with people.

Overall, behind his seriousness and sometimes anti-social behavior, Kresnik is a doubtful man who is unsure about his own usefulness to others, since he feels that he cannot fully protect Yulie. He has low self-esteem, due to being called a defect in the orphanage and having his captain call everyone in Brionac “tools” to be used for Filgaia’s future. However, he truly wants Filgaia to become better, even though he might not be able to see it happen. In that instance, Kresnik can be very selfless.

ABILITIES:

Kresnik has nanomachines in his body due to his ARM, and it’s most likely that they self-replicate to some small degree. He carries a dagger around, but Kresnik only uses it as a last resort. For transportation, he drives a motorcycle named Javelin. It’s heavily implied by a NPC that he has the ability to drive his motorcycle across the ocean, though it’s never actually seen.

His physical strength is above average, since he was able to knock back a rather large robot walker with his bare fist.

Magic-wise, Kresnik has a healing skill and a support ability that increases his or an ally’s speed and magical/physical defense. He also has a Force Ability known as Lock-On that allows him to hit a target with 100% accuracy and 25% more damage.

Kresnik’s ARM, which stands for Ambient Reorganization Material, is also known as Howling Spike and is the prototype of all the other ARMs. He can form it from ‘thin air’ because it is made of nanomachines. However, unless he has his LiNKER drug, all of his genes are painfully rewritten every single time he forms it. Another side effect is that the ARM continues to devour his body, though he never mutates in the game. His ARM is known for its Apoptosis ability and acts like a normal gun, except with unlimited ammo (He still needs to reload though).

Due to Caligo’s atmosphere, I’m assuming that his nanomachines/ARM will be locked, along with his magic/force abilities.

POSSESSIONS: He’ll be wearing his uniform and carrying a small music box that contains a special song between his sister and him.

>PERSONA
MAJOR ARCANA:
Strength
Emperor
Death

SHADOW: I don’t plan on having Kresnik face his Shadow.

PERSONA:

If possible, Runesocesius (Wikilink), however he is not part of Kresnik’s canon and I can't find any images of him. For appearance sake, I'm going with a knight that's wielding a large spear. I mainly chose him because he’s the “the Mysterious One of the Javelin (or Spear),” which I thought fits Kresnik well. Kresnik is known for driving Javelin across various terrain and he makes dramatic entrances with it. It's also not completely explained how Kresnik is able to drive his motorcycle like this, hence the "mysterious one." Also, Kresnik is known as the "Lance" of Brionac, which is similar to spear.

Stats wise, he would neither be strong against or weak against any certain element.

His skill set would start off with:
Single Shot
Swift Strike
Dia

Develop these over time:
Rakukaja
Sukukaja
Twin Shot (And later, Torrent Shot)
Diarama
Blade of Fury
Power Charge
Counter

Final moveset will be:
Brave Blade
Aeon Rain
Power Charge
Counterstrike
Diarahan
Marakukaja
Masukukaja
Arms Master

If it’s not possible, here are my choices for the three Personae:
Strength- Jikokuten
Emperor- Odin
Death- Pale Rider

PERSONA ACQUISTION: Shaking the gas station attendant’s hand.

FIRST PERSON ACTION, JOURNAL, OR PHONE SAMPLE:
[This entry will be a report written in a private journal entry. Kresnik’s written reports tend to be more formal overall.]

Report time: April 30th. Subject of report: Further analysis about Inaba.
How I boarded the train to Inaba is still unanswered. Based on my observations during the ride, the other people that were on the train didn’t remember boarding it either. Due to this, interrogating them wasn’t necessary. After we arrived in Inaba, which is located in a country known as Japan, I set out to investigate further on this matter.

The regular citizens in this relatively small town didn’t appear to be aware of anything abnormal either. The town is quiet and overall in decent shape, unlike the areas in Filgaia. Based on the functioning technology and clean atmosphere here, it’s easy to conclude that Inaba is not located anywhere in Filgaia. Furthermore, “Inaba” isn’t a name familiar to the Congressional Knights.

Finding a way back to Filgaia is essential, especially due to the recent events that have occurred there. Time is crucial and I cannot afford to waste any here.

Important note: My ARM is currently not functioning and all magic abilities are locked as well. However, this seems to have occurred to everyone that was on the train ride. I- It’s not my low capability that has caused this malfunction. Regardless, I must adapt to the situation and progress further in this town.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:

Despite being away from his home world, Kresnik was a little impressed by the conveniences that Inaba provided here. A working television, daily newspapers, and cellular phones… most of the technology in Filgaia had stopped working after the war. Well, at least for the average person; the Congressional Knights still had access to aircrafts and other transportation vehicles. Regardless, the soldier always turned the channel to the news and read the paper every day, just in case any significant information showed up.

As he poured himself a cup of coffee, without any sugar of course-- he wasn't one for sweets-- Kresnik watched as the news reporter started to talk about the recent missing person case. The individual disappeared a few days ago and there had been very few clues to help. Apparently, this was not the first time Inaba experienced random kidnappings.

Inaba was not Filgaia and there was a police department here that’s already working on the case. Even so… he could not look the other way while this was occurring. He was still a soldier and protecting people was part of his conviction as one. It was also part of the promise that he made to Yulie at the White Orphanage, and even though she wasn't here, he knew that she would be worried about the missing persons. Ignoring these incidents would only disappoint her.

…and he had already let her down enough.

He wasn't completely familiar with Inaba’s culture and terrain, but he’d try to help out. This way, he wouldn't be sitting around all day while being useless to everyone. Even if it was unlikely, perhaps he’d find more information about how to return to his own world as well. Talking to the people here hadn't really helped out and the other people that arrived with him were just as clueless.

With this new resolve, Kresnik placed his cup in the sink before walking out the front door.
