What is all this recent commotion about giving gifts to each other? Is there a holiday or event I'm unaware of?

...Trying to give gifts in a place like this seems rather difficult.

It's nearly Christmas, that's why.

You might have a point about it being difficult though..

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Christmas? ...What does it celebrate?

Food and materials are scarce...I suppose you'll have to be more creative when giving gifts here.

[identity profile] idkmybffmrhat.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Uhm, it's a celebration of the birth of Jesus. It's the best holiday of the year!

I'm sure people will manage somehow.

[identity profile] big-kitty.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's nearly a holiday on some worlds~ Even though it's a bit less than ideal here, it's still nice to have something to look forward to!

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
...Trying to bring hope around here?

[identity profile] big-kitty.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
It makes things a bit less mundane and stressful, I'd say.

It's almost Christmas -- Christmas being a religious holiday of sorts on December 25th. Gift-giving is one of the traditions.

If one is good with their hands, there's a good deal of raw material to be had here. There's just a lack of more expensive things.

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Gift-giving...Sounds like a well-intended holiday.

Seems difficult to build something without any tools though.

[identity profile] puzzledprof.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Not particularly. I was able to make some tangrams to use as gifts last year.

It seems that several people come from cultures that have holidays that fall around this time of year. At least, based on what people have discussed.

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have been told that some are celebrating this "Christmas" holiday.

I don't know anything about it either.

Around this time tends to be some variant of a harvest festival for many places I believe; it seems to be somewhat common across worlds.

It's difficult, but I don't believe impossible. Just requiring of a little more thought than normal. Would you like something?

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
...I only heard of New Year's before.

You don't have to get me anything.

[identity profile] lovelyscientist.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Then I suppose we should make this a good one for you, hm?

But I want to. You don't mind, do you?

[identity profile] dividend.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
It probably is a bit difficult... but it's the thought that counts, right?

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
...I suppose so.

And what are you going to give?

[identity profile] dividend.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
I... haven't given it much thought yet, to be honest.

I've never heard of this myself, s-so I'm kind of confused too...

[identity profile] musicboxsoldier.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently, it's a celebration in the winter season and people give gifts to honor it.

[identity profile] moonstruck-eyes.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I've learned that much from watching what's going on in this device... I just don't understand why people are making a big deal about it.

You have heard the tales told on the network, I believe?

Normally, the gift giving is somewhat less tedious; though it seems to vary between worlds.

I heard of some, though I'm never quite focused on any of them.

I see. Do you celebrate it in your world?
