All right, in my world -- since I haven't heard of anyone else knowing what they are -- eating a devil fruit gives you an unique power for the rest of your life. Also a curse, but no one except fishmen care about that because swimming in the Grand Line is like wearing a giant flashing sign asking a seaking to eat you.

Mine's a zoan, so I can turn into a phoenix.
